Year 1 Term1

  • The first term will focus on Music Performance Techniques the mandatory unit. Students will explore a range of techniques for their chosen instrument.
  • Students will complete workshops on the key skills for their instruments and complete a number of performance log books.
  • There will be a final assessment and write up for this unit. Students will be expected to perform demonstrating three varying performance techniques.

Year 1 Term2

Students will be given guidance and workshops on the following optional units. They will be provided with briefs and complete one of their choosing:

  • Aural Perception Skills
  • Classical Music in Practice
  • Composing Music
  • Improvising Music
  • Music in the Community
  • Music Performance Session Styles

Year 1 Term3

Students will be given guidance and workshops on the following optional units. They will be provided with briefs and complete one of their choosing:

  • Improvising Music in a Jazz Style
  • Listening Skills for Music Technologists
  • Live Music Workshop
  • Marketing and Promotion in the Music Industry
  • Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble
  • Singing Techniques and Performance

Year 2 Term1

Students will be given guidance and workshops on the following optional units. They will be provided with briefs and complete one of their choosing:

  • Modern Music in Practice
  • Music Project
  • Musical Theatre Performance
  • Pop Music in Practice
  • Solo Music Performance Skills

Year 2 Term2

Students will be given guidance and workshops on the following optional units. They will be provided with briefs and complete one of their choosing:

  • Studying Music from Around the World
  • The Music Freelance World
  • The Sound and Music Industry
  • Special Subject Investigation
