  • Knowledge and understanding of professional works from The Independent Contemporary Dance Scene in Britain period
  • Details on named practitioners, Hofesh Shechter and Akram Khan with consideration of the similarities and differences between their styles
  • Introduction to Christopher Bruce. Details of the compulsory set work choreographer Christopher Bruce: background and influences. Exploration of the features of the movement and choreographic style of Christopher Bruce

Year 1 Term 3

  • Solo in the style of a Practitioner
  • Choreographic Workshops
  • Knowledge and understanding of professional works performed by Rambert Dance Company. E.g, Sergeant Early’s Dream (Bruce, 1984) and Roughcut (Alston, 1990).
  • Consideration of the changes within the Independent Contemporary Dance Scene in Britain
  • Introduction to the changes and development of the Independent Contemporary Dance Scene in relation to Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui

Year 2 Term 1

  • Continued Solo in the style of a Practitioner
  • Choreographic Workshops
  • Group Choreography – external stimulus set
  • Continued analysis of the Optional Set Work ‘Sutra’ (2008)
  • Continued analysis of Compulsory Set Work ‘Rooster’ (1991)
  • Introduction to the named practitioners linked to Rambert Dance Company (formerly Ballet Rambert) e.g Robert North and Richard Alston: background and influences.

Year 2 Term 2

  • Practical Examinations – Performance in a Quartet, Solo in the style of a Practitioner and Group Choreography (External Examiner)
  • Revision of the context and analysis of the compulsory set work ‘Rooster’ (Bruce, 1991).
  • Revision of the Compulsory Set Work choreographer Christopher Bruce: influences, movement style, choreographic style, works.
  • Revision of the features of the Compulsory Area of Study: influences, style, two named practitioners (Alston and North), context.
  • Revision of the Optional Set Work choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, influences, movement style, choreographic style, works.
  • Revision of the features of the optional area of study: influences, style, two named practitioners (Khan and Shechter)
  • Revision of the key features of the works relating to both areas of study.
