The Key Stage 3 Curriculum at Sandy Secondary School covers students in years 7 and 8.
Students in these year groups study the following subjects:
For each subject area a set of assessment criteria is available on the individual subject pages. These are broken down into key areas specific to each area and are used to help assess the students.
A 5 point scale is used in each year group, in year 7 this is 7.1 to 7.5 and in year 8 it is 8.1 to 8.5. With 7.5 and 8.5 being the highest grade.
These are used to assess and monitor the progress that students are making in each subject and are dependent on the skills that each subject requires.
Each of these points will be further broken down for reporting with four sub-scales available, these being Emerging, Developing, Secure and Mastery.
Students at Emerging will have achieved up to 25% of the required standard at that level.
Students at Developing will have achieved between 25%and 50% of the required standard at that level.
Students at Secure will have achieved between 50% and 75% of the required standard at that level.
Students at Mastery will have achieved above 75% of the required standard at that level.
The grading system is a best fit model and it may be that students are able to demonstarte an understanding of some of the skills at a higher grade but they are not consistently achieving at that grade.
