Technology Department Action Plan (School Closure)

All DT staff will have a timetable provided (these have been done) indicating when all the individual groups are taught throughout the A and B week cycle.

The 4 main material areas in Y7 &8. Staff have been allocated to be in charge of ALL LESSONS for that year group and material area – irrespective of who would usually be teaching them in a normal school week. This will ensure that the same lesson can be prepared and given out to all classes equally.

Online revision websites have been collated and will be made available to students as and when required Revision Timetables Exam Groups (these have already been issued to students)

Individual Timetables have been prepared for Years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 to be issued to staff.
Individual Staff have been allocated and are in charge of setting all lessons and work for the following:
Mr Matthews: Year 7 & 8 Resistant Materials
Mr Matthews: (A week), Year 9 – Design Theory in preparation for the Exam.
Mr Matthews: Year 10 – Design Theory in preparation for the Exam.
Mrs Perrin: Year 7 & 8 Graphics
Mrs Perrin: Year 12 Resistant Materials – Exam theory and Design Task based on current project work.
Mrs Perrin: (B week), Year 9 – Design Theory in preparation for the Exam.
Mrs Beavor: Year 7 & 8 Food technology.
Mrs Beavor: Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 Hospitality and Catering
Miss Siew-Stevens: Year 7 & 8 Textiles

Specific details of Lessons and Work that will be set for each class.
Year 7 & 8 Graphics
Mrs Perrin will set 3 lessons per week for ALL YEAR 7 & 8 CLASSES
Year 7 Graphics – Packaging:
Work will be set using worksheets in PDF formats and use knowledge organisers to answer questions or complete tasks. They will be based on packaging to link in with their project through use of drawings skills or answering questions which will be knowledge based.

Year 8 Graphics – Board Game
Work will be set using worksheets in PDF formats and use knowledge organisers to answer questions or complete tasks. They will be based on drawings skills, technical drawing and worksheets to build on knowledge previously learnt in lesson.
Year 7 & 8 Resistant Materials
Mr Matthews will set 3 lessons per week for ALL YEAR 7 & 8 CLASSES
Year 7 RM - (Key rack and CAD drawings)
3 lessons per week will be prepared and sent out to both the RM groups. The work will be based around the Unit exam content, Knowledge organiser and the project covered
Lessons will consist of worksheets, standalone design tasks, product analysis. Links to technology based videos could be used as part of the learning. Year 8 RM
3 Lesson to be prepared each week based on the Unit exam content, Knowledge organiser and the practical project covered (LED lamp, casting project)

Year 7 & 8 Textiles
Miss Siew-Stevens will set 3 lessons per week for ALL YEAR 7 & 8 TEXTILE CLASSES

Mr Matthews to liaise with Miss Stevens to ensure this work is covered as and when it will need to be.

Contingency will be that Mr Matthews oversees this.

Year 7 & 8 Food & Nutrition
Mrs Beavor will set 3 lessons per week for ALL YEAR 7 & 8 FOOD CLASSES
Year 7 - This will be a mixture of pdf worksheets (which could either be printed out or completed in full sentences on lined paper), video clips to watch (either YouTube or BBC Bitesize) that will have corresponding questions to answer and mini research tasks that will focus on a specific theme which they will then create a poster/fact file/etc.
For YEAR 8 - I will create a mini-project based around food commodities. I will provide fact sheets, website links and tasks to complete for each lesson.

Year 9 – Resistant Materials
Mr Matthews will set lessons per week for ALL YEAR 9 RM CLASSES (A WEEK)
Mrs Perrin will set lessons per week for ALL YEAR 9 RM CLASSES (B WEEK)
Lessons will be based on using the departments PG online resources. These consist of PowerPoints, worksheets and support materials.

We will need to look at how the students can access these materials from home. Work will need to be set as PDF’s which can be attached to the Edulink school HW system.

Mr Matthews to look at producing a work book this week of all the worksheets and HW sheets which can be taken home by the students and filled in using the online support material.
Depending on period of time off – Further work will include a design based project – as per the Y9 SOW based on an existing GCSE contextual brief, user needs developing toys for young children. This will involve a brief being set and individual product analysis, design led tasks preparing the students for the up and coming NEA.
Year 10 – Resistant Materials (Exam Group)
Lessons will be based on using the departments PG online resources. These consist of PowerPoints, worksheets and support materials.

We will need to look at how the students can access these materials from home. Work will need to be set as PDF’s which can be attached to the Edulink school HW system.

Mr Matthews will also set them certain tasks which can be completed to boost their NEA as and where best.

Year 9, 10, 11 & 12 (Exam Groups)
L1/L2 Hospitality and Catering:

Mrs Beavor will be in charge and set ALL H&C lessons regardless of who is timetabled to teach.
For YEAR 9, 10, 11 and 12: The focus will be on Unit 1, LO2 which is how the hospitality and catering provisions operate. This will be through a ppt (which I will pdf) which can be used to complete a series of booklets (which could either be printed out or completed in full sentences on lined paper), for LO2. This will be supplemented with website links which will add variety and supplement understanding of the topics.
